Excellent Source of Information for Parents and Teachers on Teaching Reading and Reading Research:     A Series of Informative Reports from APMReports on Reading Instruction

This series of extremely informative and thorough reports from American Public Media APMreports.org on teaching students to read are phenomenal. These reports, (available as a podcast or as printed article) are well researched and include footnotes to all research, facts, data, and sources of information.

I highly recommend listening to or reading these informative reports.  From a personal standpoint, these reports cover exactly what I’ve been trying to communicate to parents and teachers for decades…   When we LEARN and APPLY the valid evidence-based reading research and science of proficient reading, we can help children achieve reading success! Sadly, our failure to apply what is proven to work results in continued reading failure for many students.

Right Track Reading’s Concluding Statement on Applying Reading Research to Help Children Achieve Reading Success

When we LEARN and APPLY the valid evidence based reading research and science of proficient reading, we can help children achieve reading success! Parents and teachers can learn much from the valid evidence-based reading research and the neurobiological science of proficient reading. The evidence-based research proves direct systematic phonics instruction IS the most effective method of reading instruction. The neuroscientists have revealed the neural ‘map’ to proficient reading is the development of phonologic processing pathways. This information can better help us lead our children and students to reading success. See Key Reading Research Findings for detailed information.

By following the ‘map’ to proficient reading and by using direct systematic phonologic based programs we CAN help our children and students achieve reading success! Unfortunately, although this reading research has been available for almost 2 decades, there has been a significant gap between the research knowledge and implementation on the ground. It is past time to implement the valid research and amazing science. I encourage all parents and teachers to learn and apply this valuable information so we can improve literacy in this country, one child, one student at a time!
